Taking planes, my family wish...

Singapore Airlines...
I come from a middle-income family, able to go overseas occasionally  However, I know I can't overspend and take planes often. It is always my family wish to take planes to go overseas, to many different countries and to explore the world. The flora and fauna of rural areas, the concrete grey of high rise buildings, the scent of the unfamiliar air, all these that I hope to experience. I hope to save enough to bring my parents overseas. That is why I am saving really hard now, I may look stingy now, but I know I need to...

This was drawn with reference to the actual Singapore Airlines plane and I modified it to look more cartoon-like. Looks more like a toy yea? Took me some time to get those windows colored. Each and every small yellow window. The plane of the body in shades of light grey and contrasting blue plane tail, with bird logo colored using complementary yellow. Got the proportions slightly wrong, but didn't have much space to rescue it. So, this brings my fat plane. :)

Sushi...

Sushi
This is actually drawn for my friend who is studying in Japan. She is there to study for a year and I decided to draw this before she left Singapore as a present. This sushi is actually drawn with reference to a sushi from Ichiban Sushi Restaurant. It was actually rice covered with a layer of cheese, wrapped over seaweed with egg, cucumber and fish roe. Delicious. Hope my friend is enjoying her sushi meals in Japan.

Burnt yellow for the cheese of the sushi, decorated with seaweed of dull green. Drawing each rice beads with pale yellow, beige and geen. Gradients of orange for the roe, gradual gradients for the yellow egg and then the cucumber. A Japanese styled plate for the background to distinguish the sushi from the background colour. Love the rice though, because of the effort drawing one by one:)

Logo...

Videography Company Logo Design

Managed to design a logo for my friends personal company which helps to make videos for weddings. She gave me a concept of what she wanted and I improvised on it and drew this for her. She sorts of uses it to print on her production video cd covers. I felt proud when I saw the logo printed on her cds. I am part of the production in a small way. My initial idea of a logo was simpler without the colour and so I submitted the black and white one. In the end, I decided to give it more colours and my friend seemed to like the latter.

Drew a cartooney video camera outline standing on a letter T and made use of the letter T to form the word Tik, which is my friend's name and then completed the wordings in black, small letters.

Pebbles...

Pebbles...

This was one of the scenery drawings that I did quite some time ago. The inspiration came from the time when I was really down. Whenever I feel sad, I hope to be by the sea. I hope to look at the blue sea and calm waters with the pebbles and sand around. I will want to find some time alone...

The different sizes of pebbles stacked staggered, with contrasting shadows to emphasize the angle of the light. The sea bleached in turquoise green instead of blue to differentiate the horizon between the sky and sea. The sky is shaded with more than 7 shades of blue to give a gentle variation of the daylight, as well as the reflection of the sea...

My Dad's Favorite...

My Dad's Favourite...

You won't be able to believe how much my dad loves ice cream. Especially those MacDonald ones. Cheap and nice. In the past, he craves for it and would want to buy one every week. However, having too much ice cream is just not too good for our body. Thus, he reduced quite abit. However, ice cream is always his first choice of dessert. Always like to observe him when  he savors it, like a little boy.

The ice cream is drawn with beige based colors with mixtures of white and cream. Shading at different angles and color to give the swirl of the ice cream. Generally, a vanilla cone, with the biscuit cone brushed using orange brown. More can be done to the biscuit part of the vanilla cone...

Take a Break, a Cup of Coffee...

Take a break, a cup of coffee...

Coffee is like a common drink at home. My mum and dad loves it. I started to learn to savor it too. The aroma and taste. I like mocha more though, because it is not as bitter. In Singapore, we can get coffee from $0.70 to $8 per cup. Different coffee gives a different authenticity. Some from Malaysia, India or America. Regardless, I think all come with uniqueness and deserves a try.:)

The cup is drawn with cool shades of grey with gentle smudging tool. White edges of plate and cup to give a slight reflective ceramic surface. Pretty design of coffee also done with fine smudging tool. I myself like the handle of the cup most, because it is the only part which portrays the 3D edge. However, I think more can be done on the texture of the cup.

My Sister's Pet...

Gui Gui

This is my sister's pet, called Gui Gui. Wonder why I decided to draw it? This little thing here is not as puny as you imagine it. It has been with my family for more than 10 years and has gone through alot with us. It was picked up from a deserted pool with no water and we decided to keep it and up till now. Its size now is much bigger than an average man's palm.

Cool shading of dirty green to colour the shell of the tortoise, tinted with slight yellow to increase the texture. Lastly, adding in with a touch of red on the neck as well as the eyes. Need more improvement in the proportions. However, I am satisfied much.

Look out for more in the next post...

My Mum...

For, Mum
I drew this for my mum months ago when I heard that she had not received flowers for a long time for Mother's Day. Thus, instead of buying her favorite tulips for her, I decided to draw one and she likes it:)

It is a mixture of some pastel colours with a range of bright pink of different shades and tone. The hardest part was the petals itself. One of my first few drawings that I am proud of.
